Villanuova sul Clisi is located in the narrow plain located between the Selvapiana (964 m above sea level) and Renico (886 m above sea level) mountains to the west and Mount Covolo (552 m above sea level) to the east. It is crossed from north to south by the Chiese river. The town is located at the entrance to the Sabbia Valley. the central area of the town developed precisely due to the presence of the cotton mill and the wool mill which offered work to the inhabitants favoring flat land on the east bank of the Chiese river, but the hamlet of Prandaglio is located on the slopes of Mount Selvapiana at an altitude between 400 and 500 m above sea level. The name Villanuova is divided into villa, because it was originally a small suburb of Gavardo, new, as the town is recent, on the Clisi, which indicates the Chiese river which is also called Clisi on which the municipality developed. Initially the small town was only called villa and in 1862 the municipality took on its current name. The presence of the cotton mill and the woolen mill was decisive for the development of Villanuova and the surrounding municipalities, which offered work to the inhabitants, encouraging an increase in the population. At Villanuova passes the Gardesana Occidentale which leads towards Brescia and Salò and the beginning of the Valsabbia valley floor road which reaches up to Barghe, furthermore in the municipal territory there is the provincial road 116 which crosses the town. Located along the Chiese river, Villanuova sul Clisi was able to make use of two important iron connections in the past for the mobility of people and goods, the Rezzato-Vobarno railway, active between 1897 and 1968.
